The Rista Marka III (RM3)
Inspired by both classic and modern horology, the Rista Marka line draws influence from vintage pilot watches, professional dive watches, and extravagant luxury timepieces. The name “Rista Marka” originates from Old Norse, loosely translating to “Marked Beauty” — a name that perfectly reflects the identity of this collection.
With the RM3, we brought those inspirations together into a single timepiece. Bold, mechanical, and unapologetically distinctive, the RM3 was designed to capture the raw character of traditional chronographs while maintaining the aggressive design language that defines UGLY Watch Co.
The Movement — ST1901
At the heart of the RM3 is the legendary ST1901 mechanical chronograph movement — a movement deeply rooted in traditional watchmaking history.
Unlike modular chronographs, the ST1901 features an integrated chronograph architecture, meaning the chronograph mechanism is built directly into the movement itself rather than added on top as a separate module. This traditional construction method is more complex and labor-intensive, but it creates a more refined and cohesive mechanical system.
The ST1901 also utilizes a column wheel chronograph mechanism, widely regarded as the superior approach in mechanical chronograph design. Requiring extremely precise tolerances and significantly more effort to manufacture than common cam-actuated systems, the column wheel delivers a smoother, more precise chronograph engagement with a distinctly satisfying mechanical feel.
For enthusiasts who appreciate traditional mechanical engineering, the ST1901 is truly the centerpiece of the RM3.
The Case back:
Continuing the Rista Marka tradition, the RM3 features a beautifully engraved exhibition caseback designed to showcase the movement as the true centerpiece of the watch.
Surrounding the sapphire exhibition glass is an intricate engraved pattern that adds depth and character while allowing the ST1901 movement to remain the star of the show. While the RM3 is powered by a manual wind movement, we intentionally retained the “AUTOMATIC” engraving around the caseback as part of the established Rista Marka design language — preserving the visual identity that collectors have come to recognize.
The Dial:
The RM3 carries forward the unmistakable Rista Marka aesthetic with its crisp white dial and balanced chronograph layout.
The UGLY Watch Co. logo sits proudly at the 12 o’clock position, while the RM3 designation is positioned above the 6 o’clock lume marker. Contrasting black chronograph subdials occupy the 3 and 9 o’clock positions, creating a bold motorsport-inspired appearance while enhancing legibility.
Applied lume plots at the remaining hour positions, paired with diamond-cut hands finished in C3 lume, ensure strong low-light visibility while adding dimension and detail to the dial.
The result is a dial that feels both mechanical and aggressive — clean enough for everyday wear, yet distinctive enough to stand apart immediately on the wrist.
